About the Author:
After graduating from Dartmouth College and Georgetown Medical School, Harold C. Klein,
M.D. did his internship and residency at the Mt. Sinai Medical Center, Cleveland, Ohio.
During World War II he served as a captain in the Medical Corps
of the 13th Armored Division. At war's end, he was awarded residencies in gastroenterology
at Massachusetts General Hospital and Mt. Sinai Hospital, New York.
He was a senior practicing internist on staff of Cleveland's Mt. Sinai Medical
Center for over fifty years, and a former president of its Medical Society.
In 1985 he was appointed Assistant Clinical
Professor of Medicine at Case Western Reserve University.
Dr. Klein wrote numerous articles on the treatment of peptic ulcer and
diseases of the intestinal tract that were published in professional journals,
and are listed in current bibliographies and
quotes in the medical literature. His writings included tirades on managed care
and the cholesterol mania which were published in the Cleveland Plain Dealer.
In the 1970s, he made a significant contribution to diagnostic medicine with his
development and patent of Larynxvue, a laryngoscope, used worldwide by
internists to facilitate the detection of cancer of the larynx.
Dr. Klein's first book, Pages off the Doctor's Pad, also a compilation
of short stories written from his medical experiences, was published in 1994.
